About Liane
Liane Wakabayashi is founder of Genesis Art Workshops, an approach to developing artistic abilities and intuition simultaneously. Liane created the forty-four Genesis Cards, a personal empowerment tool, that act as creative companions and inspire self-confidence.
While Liane was working toward her MFA in arts administration from Columbia University, she made two trips to Japan to research the phenomenon of. blockbuster art exhibitions in department stores. A job offer from The Japan Times led to her working on the international desk and making Tokyo her home in 1987. Marriage to Eastern philosopher Akihiko Wakabayashi followed.
Liane’s extraordinary marriage and the raising of their two children are at the heart of The Wagamama Bride, a memoir about her creative, spiritual and family life and its complexities. Months after her first child was born, Liane became an exhibiting intuitive artist and offered her first Genesis Art workshops. In Tokyo in 2007, when her children were still young, she opened Genesis-art-Lounge, and published simultaneously in English and Japanese the first edition of the Genesis Way—44 cards and guidebook. While Genesis Art workshops have evolved over the decades, in step with the marvelous digital advancements, the 44 Genesis Cards, available as a hard-copy deck and digitally as the Genesis Art Card App, remain the heart of every Genesis Art workshop, foundation and teacher training. Genesis Art continues today in Japan under the direction of her certified teachers, and in Israel, where she lives now.
In 2017 Liane became an Israeli citizen, was awarded “expert artist status” by the Jerusalem Municipal Art Committee, and began writing feature stories for The Jerusalem Post Magazine.
Like the Genesis Cards themselves, Liane brings a gentle light and deep wisdom to her teaching approach and welcomes individuals and groups for private lessons.
